The final divine service conducted by the Lead Apostle Oppong-Brenya on his one-day visit to the Takoradi Apostle Area took place at the Oppon Valley congregation in the Bogoso district. This was occurred in the early afternoon of 14th March 2021.
The Lead Apostle based his message on 1 Timothy 2:3-6, “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time”
Jesus: our help in times of trouble
The Lead Apostle recounted the anniversary of the directive to cease in-person religious activities in Ghana. “Most, if not all, members of New Apostolic Church were deeply affected because we were not able to receive the word, receive the Sacraments and perform holy acts of blessings, ask for forgiveness and also offer our offering as we were used to do. These were the things which protected, guided and held our faith. But in all this, Christ has been our help and solace” began the Lead Apostle.
Be prepared
He continued: “We are heading towards Easter; hence we must be ready for the impending commemoration of the death of Christ!” What is the purpose of His death? “It is His blood that saves us, which makes us royals and children of God, which therefore enables us to inherit the Kingdom. We do not know when Jesus will return, however He has revealed His plan to us. If we cannot stay faithful until His return, then we would not have a place in His kingdom.” One way of preparing ourselves is by acknowledging God as our Creator, recognizing the gift of His Son and the message of the Gospel. “We need to appreciate and be proud of these.”
Man's Need for Salvation
Jesus Christ wants to save every soul and lead us to that glorious land. Drawing inspiration from the book of Deuteronomy, the Lead Apostle Oppong-Brenya continued to share the message by saying, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”
The Mediator
Jesus is the perfect Mediator between a righteous God and a fallen humanity. He sacrificed Himself for our sins due to the first sin committed by Adam. “We only know one God, we know the one who created heaven and earth. We also know the circumstance in which Christ was born and how He died and where He is now; that is the belief of New Apostolic”. He said, Jesus Christ promised us a lot hence we are not afraid of the problems in the world. “Jesus gave Himself as a ransom for those who believe in Him. We can again fellowship with God, live with Him and enjoy Him forever.”
The Lead Apostle ended his service by saying: “Our faith is like a flying eagle; it will be difficult for the bird to use only one wing to fly. So must we also fully embrace the faith and doctrine. We should do well to win more souls for Christ and desist from activities which will lead to the loss of souls.” He advised the Rector to take good care of the congregation and also expressed his appreciation on the cleanliness of the premises.
The Lead Apostle was assisted by Apostle Sam, District Rector Tawiah, Community Evangelist Tulashie and Shepherd Smith Enoku.
