Its advent season. Christians keep themselves in readiness to commemorate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accordingly, Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo celebrated a divine service on the third Sunday of Advent with the brethren at Kpando in the Volta North Apostle Area, on December 13, 2020. Eighty Five (85) members participated in the service.
The service was based on a text from John 1:15 ‘John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’”’
“I am exceedingly glad to be with you today, here in this congregation. It is the third Sunday of Advent. We await the commemoration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. For us today however, the Advent season reminds us of His imminent return” the Lead Apostle stated. “Many prophets had prophesied the birth of Jesus Christ”, he continued. “They waited for its fulfilment. The Saviour was born at God’s own appointed time. The most important thing is not the length of time, but that He was born as promised. His return shall in similar fashion occur; He shall surely return as promised!”
In his exposition of the text, the Lead Apostle stated that John the Baptist was sent before the Lord to prepare the way. He testified of Him saying “...and I have seen and testified that this is the son of God (John 1:34).”
Belief in Jesus’ teaching and His return
Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo emphasized that, all must accept and believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ as of old. He brought onto us salvation and made us children of God through our belief in Him. Now He has promised to go and prepare a place for us. He wants to bring us unto Himself. The Lead Apostle further explained that, just as the people of old forgot the promised birth of the Saviour, so are people in the current dispensation also lost belief in the promised return of Jesus Christ. He entreated the members to remain focused and have their eyes on the goal of entering into the kingdom of God.
Prepare the way
Today, the Lord has also sent the Apostles into the world to prepare the way for His return. Through the Apostles, all of us have been brought into the fold. Like John the Baptist, we too are called to proclaim Christ and testify of His presence and imminent return. We also want to bear witness of the light and salvation plan of God. Let us pave the way that many can come into the fold. Then together we shall await the Lord to come and take us home.
Wrapping up the sermon, the Lead Apostle admonished members to keep their faith in the long wait for the return of out Christ. “Let us help prepare the way. At the end of time, we want to be with the Lord. By grace, we shall enter the kingdom of God. Let us ensure our names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life. He shall surely return to those whom He promised. We want to prepare the way for this to happen” he concluded.
The Lead Apostle was assisted by Apostle Timothy Akubia (Volta North) and District Rector Eric Arhin (Accra West).
