“My dear brethren in Christ, I am glad to be with you. We should always strive onwards and press forward, till we attain our aim.” These were the words of Apostle George Sam of the Takoradi Apostle Area as he visited the Ateiku District and held two separate Divine Services at Ateiku and Twifo Adugyaa Congregations with District Rector Kweku Sam and Deputy District Rector Emmanuel Asante on the 30th of August 2020. Apostle Sam also embarked on a pastoral visit after the divine service.
Greater Things
Beginning from Ateiku congregation, Apostle Sam based his sermon on Psalm 126:3-4 “The Lord has done great things for us, And we are glad. Bring back our captivity, O Lord, As the streams in the South.”
Be glad. Apostle Sam stated that God has prepared a place for us. “The question is are we all ready to be with Christ? My brethren, we are not in normal times hence we need to be careful not to be stolen by the devil.” He said God heard the voice of His people and sent Moses to bring them out of bondage. He continued: “Their deliverance was so great and incredible that when God brought it to pass, they were surprised and still thinking it was a dream and vain imagination, than a real truth.” Apostle Sam said we are also crying to God to save as from this pandemic and ungodly world but just as He did for the Israelites so shall He save as from our troubles.
Let us appreciate. Apostle Sam told the congregation to appreciate what the Lord has done for us, as David said in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want”. He said David knew what the Lord has done by providing guidance and protection. No one is living a comfortable life but we must be content with what we have and also give thanks to God because life is precious and priceless.
Prayer. We should learn how to pray as Christians because that is our weapon. Christ taught his disciples how to pray, and when we also come to the divine service we also say the Lord's Prayer. It is necessary that we prepare our hearts for the kingdom, said the Apostle. He concluded by saying that God always protects us and we should always give thanks to Jesus Christ.
At Twifo Adugyaa - At Twifo Adugyaa congregation, Apostle George Sam read from the book of James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
And It Shall Be Given - Apostle Sam proclaimed to the congregation of Twifo Adugyaa to rejoice everyday and stand firm in this time. He said we should always give thanks to God because that is the only thing God cannot do for Himself. Apostle Sam said because Solomon asked for wisdom, God gave him more than what he asked for: long life, riches, and honour. “What do we also ask God” Apostle Sam questioned? Reading from Proverb 24:3, Apostle Sam explained that “if we do not have the technical expertise on building, how can we build? We need to always seek wisdom from God in everything that we do.”
Love One Another. Jesus Christ, used the parable of the Good Samaritan to explain and demonstrate who are neighbour is and how we should “love our neighbours as ourselves.” When others need our help the most, like the man beaten by robbers on the road, our love for our neighbour is truly tested. Jesus instructs us to be like the Good Samaritan, helping others in times of suffering, and not the Priest and Levite who neglected their neighbour.
Apostle Sam concluded by saying that the good Samaritan used wisdom to save the life of his neighbour hence for as to get wisdom we need three things - love, faith and hope.
