On the 26th of July 2020, Apostle Goddey Odili (Nigeria), supported by District Elder Alex Madubuike, reminded Christians of the need to live the gospel and stand in faith through all times of life in readiness for the return of our Lord. He officiated a YouTube divine service from Abuja, Nigeria.
The text word for the sermon was taken from Matthew 24:44, ‘Therefore you also be ready, for the son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’
Apostle Goddey Odili began his sermon in heartfelt gratitude to the Lord for the blessedness of being able to celebrate the last divine service of the month of July, 2020.
Grace and Faith. The Apostle explained that we can only prevail through all times when we have grace. However, the only way to enjoy this grace is to remain trusting in God and following Him no matter what. Just as Apostle Paul, we must be happy suffering for the sake of Christ.
Signs and plans. “Let us not be carried away of the situation at hand because they are part of the signs of His return” said the Apostle. He explained that whereas many people expect God to intervene immediately, the Lord works with His own plan and time. We must accept and trust God’s plans.
Road to Christ. It is our duty as Christians to remain on the path to Jesus and salvation no matter the difficulties. We must try all things possible with God to remain on this road; the day of the return of Jesus is not known, therefore we must be prepared at all times.
Everlasting fellowship. The Apostle added that our Christian fellowship here on earth is a precursor to an everlasting divine fellowship with God. Those who strive to remain in fellowship on earth, in faith and sanctified by God, shall be a part of the glorious and eternal fellowship with the Father.
Avoid sin. Those waiting in fellowship must avoid sin, encouraged. We must battle against sin and evil by keeping the commandments of God.
Be like Christ. The Apostle also advised that Christians must be Christ-like and be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Our way of life, choice of friends and attitude to divine services must show people that we are indeed waiting for the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Concluding his sermon, Apostle Goddey Odili urged all to remain focused on the image of Jesus Christ as our guide and leader. We must allow the Holy Spirit to comfort, help and remind us of the Lord’s teachings. Let us resist the pressures of the world to destroy our fellowship with Christ so as not to be found wanting on that day when Our Lord returns, he admonished.
