“Those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they will soar like eagles. They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” These were the opening remarks of Apostle George Sam of the Takoradi Apostle area as he made his first visit of the year to Krofofrom congregation in the Kroforom District on the 22nd February 2020. This was day two of his three day visit to three districts in the Takoradi Apostle area.
The bible text for the service was read from Mark 1:12-13, “And immediately the spirit driveth Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan and was with the wild beast: and the angels ministered unto Him”.
The temptation of Jesus
Apostle Sam Begun his sermon by saying, “No temptation has overtaken you except that which is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”.
During Jesus’ forty days fasting, Satan tempted Jesus three times, but He resisted Satan. God provided a way for Jesus to overcome the temptations. Though Jesus was in the wilderness with wild animals, He was not hurt by them but rather the angels ministered to Him all the time because He prayed to God. “To this were you called, because Jesus Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow His steps” remarked the Apostle.
Striving during temptation
Apostle Sam continued: “Satan is going around seeking whom to devour. When temptations come, do not put you trust in man, nor your riches, your work or the things of these world because they are all passing away. The Word of God gives us strength, let us read it and pray all the time. Jesus took up the shield of faith, with which He extinguished all the flaming arrows from the evil one. Again, Jesus had the helmet of salvation and the Word of God which is the sword of the spirit. With this in mind, be alert of the schemes of the evil one because, he is busily going around looking for our weakness to make us fall.”
Apostle Sam ended his sermon by saying, “The love of money is the root of all evil, be content with what God has blessed you with. When temptations come, let us resist them. Let us trust God in such times. Stop running to men. God is with us always and is ready to help us resist and overcome all temptations.”
Apostle George Sam was assisted by Bishop Ampofo and District Elder Moses Kyei.
Apostle George Sam also reminded the congregation of the upcoming national youth camp in Kumasi. He urged all parents to prepare their children for this great gathering.
