The Sunday School at the first divine service for the year 2020
22 January 2020

Despite the dusty and dry winds of the harmattan, District Evangelist Suguruman Yaw Laar conducted the first divine service of the New Year for our brethren at the Bolgatanga Central church on 5th January 2020.

The bible text for the service was read from Psalm 101:6, ‘My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land. That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way. He shall serve me’.

The District Evangelist, elaborating on the text word, explained that the palace of the Lord is not made for any other thing but for mankind. The Lord seeks to share His kingdom and royalty with those who have been faithful to Him as kings.

Continuing his sermon, he added that the gift of the New Year by God presents an opportunity to us to:
* Recognise our mistakes in the past and strive to perfection
* Be thankful to God at all times. He emphasized that the hymns and prayers in the book of Psalms was a way of giving thanks and reverence to God by the Israelites. They were hymns of praise and worship to God as well as prayers for help, protection and salvation.
* District Evangelist Laar took the opportunity to also give thanks to God for seeing members of the congregation through to the first Sunday of the year. He said: “I thank God for accepting us all on this day. It is not by our beauty, nor our money and our physical strengths; but by His mercies”. He further advised all to place the Lord at the centre of their New Year resolutions

In his conclusion, the District Evangelist said: “Let us all get ready for the kingdom ahead of us. We are in a New Year; let all of us be renewed in our minds and hearts as children for the Lord”.

The service was assisted by Priest Emmanuel Akakure.

After the service, District Evangelist Laar took time to interact and celebrate the New Year with the Sunday School.
