It was a festive occasion when Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo conducted the first Sunday divine service of the year on 5th January 2020 at the Ho Central chapel. He was in the company of Lead Apostle Samuel Oppong-Branya, Apostles Timothy Akubia (Volta-North Apostle Area), Anthony Kuada (Volta-South Apostle Area) and Richard Osei (Volta-Central Apostle Area, host). District Rectors and members from from the three Apostle Areas in the Volta Region were invited to attend this special divine service.
As the basis for the divine service, Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo read the bible text Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”
Law and Judgement…
The Lead Apostle emphasized that the law does not give freedom and many prophets in the bible whom God used, themselves could not obey to perfection. Rebellion of humans is a sin in the sight of God. Referencing Matthew 19:18-19, the Lead Apostle stated that the law was made for judgement and does not make us free. He further remarked that under the law, people waited to die and be judged. Yet, none can stand perfect before the Almighty God to be judged.
Christ makes free…
Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God, makes us free. Further drawing from the encounter of Jesus and the young rich ruler in Matthew 19:20-21, the Lead Apostle said we often refuse to let go of things we deem important and define our personhood and status such as our wealth and social status. We also are often unforgiving, hateful, and egoistic. All these hinder our partaking of the first resurrection.
In his conclusion, Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo encouraged the congregants to have trust in God, and to remain faithful. He ended with the words: “We are all as an unclean beings, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. We all will wither as a leaf, and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away. But the Lord has been faithful to us in the past years and so shall He be in the coming years. Do not let the spirits of the world influence you, because Christ makes free.”
Lead Apostle Oppong-Brenya, Apostles Akubia and Kuada supported the service. After the divine service, Lead Apostle Oppong-Brenya officially introduced to the congregation Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo as their new Lead Apostle and urged all ministers and members to fully support with their love and commitment as extended him during his leadership.
