Every human being is made of body (physical) and soul (spiritual); the body is of the earth, the soul is from God. Yet, for as long as we live in this world we will have a constant battle between the body and soul. However, one must dominate the other. How can we do this? Our Lord Jesus is the perfect example. Having experienced this battle Himself, He prayed a priestly prayer for His disciples (us) following His works on earth.

In an inspiring divine service at the Osu congregation on Wednesday 16th October 2019, Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo shared a message based on John 17:15, ‘I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.’

The battle within us. How do we control the struggle between body and soul? The Apostle answers with a message given him as a youth by the late Apostle Schwarzer, “In you are 2 spirits fighting; spirit of this world and the Holy Spirit. It is up to you to let one control the other, by virtue of the things you do. The attitude, character and behaviour you possess makes either spirit dominate. Whatever it is, these 2 spirits live inside you. One must be supreme to the other.”

The world shall pass away. Although we live, interact with and are influenced daily by the world, we cannot depend on the world. The Apostle added: “The interesting part of it all (battle) is, that which belongs to the world will pass away someday.” He continued: “If we rest on that which belongs to this world, and the world comes to an end, what would you do?”

Watch... Apostle Ohene-Saffo admonished the congregation to be alert and aware of our thoughts and deeds at all times, lest we are led to and fall in temptation. “The evil one is in this world; in the things around us, our schools, workplaces, homes and married lives, in the midst of our friends. These things can become evil towards us, even in the things we see and we hear.” He continued: “We must watch the lives we live, watch the things around us and things going on. We cannot afford to sleep, because the evil one is always on our doorsteps, looking for an opportunity to take us.”

…and then Pray. The Apostle urged the congregation to take up the mantle to pray and ask the Lord for strength, and to help us guard against the evil one. “Pray. Most of us don’t. Let us pray for the Lord to keep us away from the evil one.”

The Apostle was assisted by District Evangelist Amoah and Priest Jonas. Eleven (souls) were also Holy Sealed as part of the service.
