On Saturday, 3rd of August 2019, Lead Apostle Samuel Oppong-Brenya officiated a funeral service for the late District Elder Anthony Bosompem at Obuasi.
The text word for the service was taken from Job 2: 11 – 13 (NKJV), ‘Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place – Eliphaz the Termanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him. And when they raised their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven. So, they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.’
Beginning the sermon, Lead Apostle comforted church members and the widow, Mrs. Rose Bosompem and ensured everyone at the funeral grounds that we are always hopeful when we have Christ.
Basing on the text word, he explained that, Job experienced happiness in his early stages of his life and also experienced sadness in his life time but he was hopeful in the Lord. The same applies to Christians too. There is time we enjoy happiness with our family members and vice versa. But what do we do in our sorrowful moment as Christians? He added that Jesus Christ has assured us there is happiness at the end of our sorrows. “We know we shall meet our beloved again when Christ comes. Let us pray our Lord keeps him in His righteous place.”
In his conclusion, the Lead Apostle advised all to remain united and continue the work of God despite our current sorrows.
He was assisted at the altar by Apostle Anom Nortey. There were about 1,000 congregants and mourners at the funeral gathering.
District Elder Anthony Bosompem served as a District leader in the Obuasi district for 22 years, where he cared for the souls of 15 congregations. He was also a medical doctor, practicing in his own clinic. He died at the age of 70 years. May His soul rest in perfect peace.
