“We are here to celebrate our rich fellowship, and to compete in a friendly manner to select our district representatives for the upcoming youth camp. Let us not allow anger and unsporting behaviour take over us”. These were the words of Priest Samuel Tetteh (Accra East Youth Leader) as he opened the District Youth Games held at the Tema Community 8 Park on 29th June 2019.

The games, organized under the theme “Rep’ Your Jersey”, witnessed a grouping of congregations competing against other similar groupings. It also served as an opportunity for the district youth leadership to select teams and sports persons to represent the youth at the 2019 Accra Apostle Area Youth Camp to be held in Swedru (Central Region).

There were a variety of sporting activities including 100 metre race, tug-of-peace, football, volley ball, ampe (a local female game of 2 where one jumps, claps the hands and thrusts a foot forward) as well as board games and card playing.

District Leader Adjei at the end of the event, in addressing the over 200 youth present from all 10 congregations, congratulated all sporting participants and thanked all present for coming. He acknowledged the efforts and funding from the various congregational youth leaders and encouraged all to continue to support the district’s activities to deepen togetherness and youth care.
