The Legon congregation celebrated divine service for the departed, the third and final for the year, on 4th November 2018. The divine service was led by Priest Basil Damankah in the midst of 19 brothers and sisters.
The service was based on the text word John 3:14-15 (NKJV), ‘And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’
“All through the week, we have been interceding on behalf of our families, friends, close associates and even unknown people who have proceeded to the world beyond that God will grant them grace and the opportunity for them to come back to His fold, to listen to His message, partake in His acts of grace and also to be redeemed as they await the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.” said Priest Basil Damankah as he began the sermon.
Priest Damankah admonished that ingratitude of the Israelites after their redemption from servitude in Egypt amidst all of God’s interventions and supplies, caused the anger of God upon them for which he sent fiery serpents that bit and killed them. Upon Moses interceding on their behalf, God ordered him to make a bronze serpent, set it on a pole that those who looked up to it were saved. The snake bite was an image of sin and death, a separation from God. The bronze snake pole was a fore shadow of Jesus on the cross, all we need to do is to believe in the Son of God and His redemptive power.
“We have interceded on behalf of departed souls, we believe they are here, they have received the Word, they will receive the acts of grace through the Apostle’s Ministry, let us continue to live the model of Jesus Christ and by His grace we shall see eternal life.” Priest Damakah concluded.
Priest Peter Owusu also assisted in the service.
