The Annual Youth Camp for the Kumasi Apostle Working Area was held at Toase Senior High School in the Nkawie District from 23rd - 26th August, 2018. Thirteen (13) districts were hosted at this year’s camping with a total attendance of 466 youth members. Apostle Amos Osei-Du was in attendance to grace the event.
The camp began on Thursday, 23rd August, with the arrival of the various districts in the early afternoon. Following a short welcome address by the host District Elder, the youth enjoyed a stage drama titled, “Money Eye Red”, which was to educate the youth on the evils of the love of money. The day ended with a debate on the topic ‘Internet: A Curse for Our Generation’.
On Friday after an hour’s morning devotion and breakfast, the youth were taken through two seminars on the topics ‘Youth in Leadership’ and ‘Way of Life’. Immediately after lunch, the youth were put into groups as they were guided through an interactive and engaging entrepreneurship workshop on the production of ‘sobolo’ (or bissap; a popular local drink), spring rolls and liquid soap. The day ended with a talk on ‘Addiction’, both non-drug and drug addictions with emphasis on the abuse of Tramadol as a growing concern.
The next day, Saturday, commenced with a morning devotion followed by a discussion on doctrinal issues. Four main topics were discussed as regards the New Apostolic Church’s doctrine and position on them namely; speaking in tongues, the involvement of women in the pastoral ministry, celebration of Holy Communion by children and why the act of Holy Baptism is not performed by immersion. Following this session, the youth went into the township of Nkawie on a float and evangelism exercise. Afterwards, the participants gathered at the sports field to engage in a variety of games including soccer, ‘tug of peace’, lime-on-spoon, sack race as well as a selection of board games.
Subsequent to supper, the participants enjoyed an enthralling competition of Bible verse quotations. Each player was expected to quote a verse from memory on his turn, failure to which he was eliminated. The height of the night was the Kumasi Youth Choir performing choral anthems and a number of local choral highlife tunes. The gathering were in full delight and praise as they prepared their hearts and souls towards the Divine Service.
On Sunday, 26th August, Apostle Amos Osei-Du celebrated Divine Service with the youth. The text word was taken from Deuteronomy 4:29. The Apostle exhorted the youth to keep God’s commands to receive His blessings and promises. The Apostle added, “Today, God has called us His children and has given us the Apostles to lead us, we are being raised and nurtured in the faith of Jesus and the Apostles’ doctrine to the promise land.”
After the service, Apostle Amos Osei-Du announced to the congregation that the 2019 Youth Camp will be held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and will be a camping of all youth in Ghana. He added that it will take place from the 8th to 11th August 2019, as part of the church’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in Ghana.
