Apostle George Anum Nortey listening to an anthem from the choir
30 August 2018

From the 16th to 19th of August 2018,  the Konongo Apostle area held its annual youth camp at Ejura in the Ashanti region under the theme, “The Purpose of Our Calling (Colossians 3:23)”. About 700 youth from fourteen (14) districts participated in this year’s youth camp.

The Assing-Ningo youth, with over 60 members, were the first to arrive at the grounds at exactly 1:00 pm on Thursday, 16th August. A few hours later, the Adako Jachie youth performed an inspirational drama and a beautiful choreography to welcome the youth from all the districts. Bishop Kesse then gave a welcome address at exactly 6:00pm. The day ended with a lesson on Tramadol and Its effects by a member from the Obuasi District.

Friday began with a morning devotion followed by a program titled “Church of Christ”. There were other activities held during the day such as a workshop on soap and pomade making. The participants also discussed topics such as ‘The Youth and Migration’, ‘Working in the Lord's Vineyard’ and ‘The Hidden Lamp’.

On Saturday, after morning devotion, Deacon Stephen Asare led a talk on the topic False prophets. Later in the afternoon, the youth were involved in sporting activities and fun games including ‘lime and spoon’, sack race, football and ‘Tug of Peace’. In the evening, the youth held an open forum with the Apostle as well as a bible quiz. The Obuasi district emerged winners of the bible quiz.

The camp activities was climaxed by a Divine Service conducted by Apostle George Anum Nortey on Sunday. He was accompanied by Bishop Charles Kesse and some of the District Elders of the Apostle Area.

The text word for the service was chosen from John 9:35-36, “Jesus heard that they had cast of him out; and when He had found him, He said to Him, do you believe in the Son of God? He answered and said, who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him? (NKJV)”.

The Apostle further explained that we are the witnesses in this era. It is therefore our obligation to believe in Jesus Christ and proclaim the word of God to our relatives, friends and neighbours. This is the purpose of our calling into the vineyard. He encouraged the youth to remain faithful and wait for the return of Christ.
