11 February 2018

“I ask you my dear Apostles, to deal with the most important first: Preparing the Leaders which the Church needs for the future, and implementing Sunday school in the remote congregations”.  (Chief Apostle Schneider, 2015, Lusaka Zambia)

With a goal of attaining 80% of this vision by the year 2020, Ghana wants to achieve 60% by the end of the year 2018. Based on this, District Elder Oehler from Stuttgart, Germany included Sunday school in his itinerary during his visit to Ghana in the early part of January, 2018. He attended Sunday school classes at the Kumasi Central Church on 7th January, 2018 at 9.00 am, GMT.

Briefing District Elder Oehler, the head of the Sunday school teachers in Kumasi, Mercy Ofori Atta disclosed the number of Sunday School teachers available and their willingness to impart the faith onto the children. She said there are six Sunday School teachers taking care of over 100 children in the congregation. To enhance effective teaching and learning, the children are divided into three main groups with respect to age. The categories include; children under 6 years, under 11 years and under 14 years. After undergoing years of tuition according to the faith of the New Apostolic Church, the children graduate to the youth after confirmation at the age of 14 years.

Mercy Ofori Atta further thanked the Administration for the availability of Teaching Manuals which makes teaching much easier and effective.

The children learnt and performed a play based on the story of "The Good Samaritan". 103 Sunday school children attended the event. Also present to witness the occasion was the Lead Apostle Samuel Oppong-Brenya and Apostle Osei-Du who takes charge of the Kumasi Apostle Area and Bishop Asare from Accra.
