Indeed the celebration of a naming ceremony brings family and friends together as a newborn baby is officially named and welcomed into the family. It was the same feeling at the East Legon congregation on Saturday 8th January 2022, Lead Apostle Samuel Oppong-Brenya officiated the naming ceremony of Dominic and Elsie Entsie’s baby girl, Briella Oppong Entsie.
The basis of naming is rooted in the Scriptures. God created all things, but He did not name anything. Adam did, as stated in Genesis 2:19: “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature that was its name.” The Lead Apostle continued, “God gave wisdom to Adam, so the names Adam gave the animals and everything was ideal for them. He named them perfectly. Be careful, whatever name is given to the child, that is what the child could become.”
Dominic and Elsie Entsie named their daughter after the Lead Apostle. Briella means the Lord is my strength. Oppong is the name of the Lead Apostle. Entsie is the family name. The Lead Apostle made reference to the name, blessed it and prayed for the child to fulfill the purpose of the name. He also offered prayers for the child and asked for God’s blessings for Dominic and Elsie Entsie. Family, friends and members of the Madina and East Legon Congregations shared in this beautiful moment. The orchestra spiced the occasion with beautiful tunes.
The Lead Apostle was supported by Deputy District Rector Karel de Heer and Shepherd Godfried Fenyi. Shepherd Jones Kyere was the MC of the occasion.
