On a drizzling Sunday morning, Sisters Dorcas Sekyere and Benedicta Appiah, as usual, had begun their assigned responsibilities in the Lord's House as Confirmation and Sunday School Teachers. The time read 8:05 in the morning. Preceding the teaching of children, they had already helped to prepare the makeshift church premises for divine service, something they regularly did prior to their current assignments.
Our NAC reporter shares this interaction with our dedicated sisters on a visit to the congregation.
NAC Reporter: Tell us about yourselves?
Benedicta: Absolutely! I teach Sunday school. I am part of the choir, and also one of the daughters of Priest Prosper Appiah.
Dorcas: I am the Confirmation Class teacher and youth leader, a chorister, and a divine service translator.
NAC Reporter: How do you both prepare for a Sunday?
Both laughed and then exclaimed, "Together".
Benedicta: We meet on Saturdays here at the church premise to plan how best to convey lessons to children via praying to our Heavenly Father, reading the Church's recommended manuals, doing research through the Church’s website, internet and the Holy Bible, NKJV version.
NAC Reporter: How do you, Dorcas, feel being a divine service translator from 2017 to date?
Dorcas: It feels weird and, on certain occasions scary, to mistranslate a word from a sermon, but so far I am pleased.
NAC Reporter: What is your most cherished moment as a translator?'
Dorcas: There are countless, but the most challenging one was during a recent divine service with our Deputy District Rector De-heer. He often delivers a sermon bilingually, and I also had to do the same for translation making such a moment intriguing for me. This was a very different experience to the usual common use of one language.
NAC Reporter: What is your favourite Bible passage and why?
Dorcas: It is so hard to pick one! Psalms 23 has been dear to me: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He... And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." This passage always strengthens my faith in the Lord and inspires me to dwell in His house!
Benedicta: Well, mine is Revelation 20:6, which says, "Blessed and holy is he who has a part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years". It is the ultimate goal of every New Apostolic Christian.
NAC Reporter: What are your goals as teachers?
“To remain in God's love! By doing what is required from us”, both ladies shared.
And they heartily and wittingly added and run-off: “So we need to switch to our assigned responsibilities now, byeeeee”.
