Proverbs 22:6 – ‘’Train up the child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it’’ – is an inspirational text from the Bible that encouraged the Madina Congregation to bring the children in a manner in which they will have love for Christ and the Church, feel inclusive in congregational life, unearth and inspire talents as well as entrench the Church doctrine in their hearts. In so doing, their faith remains strong even as they grow and become adults and will not depart from it.
In 2019, the Madina Congregation decided to innovate their Sunday School Divine services, where Sunday School children take charge of various functions during the divine service such as the choir, orchestra, and playing musical instruments during the divine service. The children would also have an opportunity, after the Divine service, to role play as ministers officiating and assisting divine services. Others would also show case their talents in role plays, poetry recitals, Bible verse recitals, doctrinal recitals and solo performances among others.
On Sunday 13th August, 2023, the 4th edition of the Divine Service with Sunday School was held, much to the excitement of the children.
The service was led by Shepherd Jones Kyere based on Luke 13:16-17 ‘Then He said to him, A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant a supper to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’’
The Shepherd encouraged the children and the congregants that no matter where they would be, they should remain faithful to God in all circumstances, knowing that the Lord could return at any time.
He was supported by Priests Walter, Samuel, Solomon, Gyimah and Bright.
All said and done, there was a sense of joy and fulfilment among the excited Sunday School children. One child asked: “Why not once every month?” Two others also exclaimed: “We are happy when we sit inside the chapel to see Shepherd preach to us”, “When is the next one?”
If the sentiments from the 2023 Divine Sunday School edition is a marker, then 2024 would be even more anticipated.
