Bishop Charles Kesse waving the congregation
28 December 2023

Bishop Charles Kesse led a special festive divine service on Christmas Day at Assin Brofoyedru (Konongo Working Area) where he also celebrated the day with widows. He was accompanied by District Rectors Affo (Assin Ningo) and Essien (Assin Akofidi).

The service was based on the text Luke 2:10 – 11, ‘Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord (NKJV).”’

The special Bible reading was read by Brother Kwakye, from the book of Matthew 1:18 – 25

Beginning his sermon by recounting the importance of Christmas, the Konongo Bishop recounted the intimate and unique relationship between Man (Adam and Eve) and God in the Garden of Eden. However, this relationship was destroyed when man succumbed to the deceit of the devil. “We lost that ‘face-to-face’ closeness with God because we disobeyed Him, and sinned”, said the Bishop. But God still loved Man and so to unite with us again, have that ‘face-to-face’ with Him, God sent His Begotten Son to bring is close to Him. This He did through the Virgin Mary. Christ was born.”

Bishop Kesse further stated that the birth the Son brought good news and hope to the people at the time, and that also rings true for us today. Much as Jesus healed the sick, liberated people from their sufferings and fed thousands, there were many more that still had their problems unresolved. It is the same today. They key purpose for the coming of Jesus was to save our souls and reunite us with God, he explained.

“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord, let us not be in fear” encouraged the Bishop. “Let us accept and strive through our sicknesses, sufferings, and hardships as these will continue to persist in the world until the Lord returns. Let us not give up. The Lord will help us through all of these, just us He did for David, Daniel and the disciples. But let’s remember these shall all surely pass away.”

“More importantly, let us focus on the eternal goal of being with the Father, as that is the ultimate reason for the birth of Jesus Christ; to save our souls and bring us in oneness with God. And for that reason, let us rejoice and be glad for the hope of our future” the Bishop concluded.

Celebrating Christmas with Widows
As part of his annual pastoral care, Bishop Charles Kesse celebrated Christmas by giving widows in the district some food and clothing. The widows were very surprised and grateful for the kind gesture.

The Bishop also visited an ailing minister who had been sick for two years.
