Priest Paul welcoming Lead Apostle with a handshake
30 December 2023

On Christmas Eve, 2023, the members from the Accra East District gathered at the compound the of East-Legon Congregation for their Christmas Day United Service with Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo. He was accompanied by Apostle Charles Asare (Accra Area), District Rectors Arhin (Accra West) and Owusu-Ansah (Takoradi) as well as Deputy District Rectors De-Heer (Accra East) and Hammond (Accra West).

The text word used for the divine service was taken from Luke 2: 10-11, ‘Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord”’.

The special Bible reading for this festive occasion, Matthew 1:18-25, was read by Sister Therese Kayi.

Beginning his sermon, the Lead Apostle stated that although Christmas is an occasion celebrated by many, there is a deeper meaning to the importance of Christmas in our times.  He further shared that there was a promise, which was followed by prophecies foretold by the prophets of old and was later fulfilled. These prophecies gave birth to the salvation unto which we behold today. The angel announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds in the field: he called Him;

  • The Saviour, who would deliver all people.
  • Christ, the One sent by God and invested with power and authority.
  • Was wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.

The Lead Apostle continued: “This announcement to the shepherds tells us of ‘humility’, an example of the Lord Jesus Christ with which His birth was announced. As children of God, we need to display humbleness. And also, there are two things we need to take note of as we cross into the new year 2024”. The Ghana Church Leader explained that:

  • Acquiring much money removes humility from a man’s life and thereafter develops pride
  • When one gains power, they tend to loose humility because power is believed to harness everything.

In conclusion, Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo encouraged that just as the shepherds left their flock by night and went searching for the Lord, we too must leave everything and come to the Lord in all humility. In so doing, the Lord will surely bless us. “Today, the Holy Spirit teaches us about salvation. Christ also sent His Apostles and gave them the authority to proclaim salvation and we are to follow, listen to them (Apostles) in humility regardless of our statuses”.

As part of the service, 46 souls were sealed.

After the service, members took turns to fellowship, enjoying moment so of choir sing along, recitals, social interactions, feasting and reflecting on the Church’s 2024 motto; ‘Prayer works’.
