“Easter is a commemoration of the fact that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. It is the foundation of hope for eternal life, undoing both death and mankind’s separation from God. This is the basis for our belief in the Resurrection of the Dead in Christ and transformation of the living upon His return”, said Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo as he led a special united divine service on Easter Sunday.
A little over 1,700 members from Accra East and West Districts gathered at the Accra Central Church for this festive divine service.
The festive Service was based on text word from; 1 Corinthians 15:20-21, “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead”.
A special Bible reading for the festive occasion, John 20:1-10, 19-23, was read by Brother Eyram.
Beginning the sermon, the Lead Apostle expounded, “Man’s greatest fear and enemy is death. And if man has life, then he has hope. But as soon as sickness sets in, man fears that death awaits him. The devil uses this fear as a weapon against mankind. From the beginning of the Scriptures, Man was created in the image of God and given dominion over all earthly creation as there were no worries, sorrows but blessings and joy for man.
Unbeknown to the devil, the fall of man in the Garden of Eden did not mark the end of his existence. Man is made of 2 beings: the earthly and spiritual being. As believers, after death, our earthly bodies would return to earth while our souls reunite with God.
The Lead Apostle continued, the prophets of old could not offer man salvation till Jesus Christ came into the world. And, He came into this world for two reasons;
- To show man the way, the truth and the love of God which is the Gospel.
- To establish the sacraments so that man can be redeemed and reconciled to God through a process.
He continued: “Men who seek after earthly desires rather than the hope of eternal life are the most miserable. Because from dust we came and back to it we shall return and perish with all fleshly possessions sought after.”
The Lead Apostle further explained, “The resurrection of Jesus is the goal we seek and shall have as believers. Those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will not sleep in the dust but resurrect at the right time.”
The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ eluded Satan, the devil thought Christ’s death would mark His end. However, Jesus Christ after His death, entered the realm of the departed and preached unto them, and arose on the third day creating the path for our resurrection.
Concluding the sermon, the Lead Apostle said, “Before Christ began His earthly mission, He was baptised with Water and the Holy Spirit and instituted the Holy Communion in a dine with His Apostles. This means, if we receive the sacraments and heed to His Word, we shall have the privilege to rise again after death because Christ has created the path, and He lives in us.”
The Lead Apostle, Benjamin Ohene-Saffo was assisted by Apostle Charles Asare (Accra Area), Shepherds Adjetey (Teshie 1), Okyere (Teshie 2), Dentu (Ofankor) and Subunu (Taifa). Also, he placed six Priestly ministers into retirement, appointed 4 Congregational Rectors and assigned 3 Deputy Congregational rectors.
