The late Obaapanyin Mercy Oppong
24 April 2024

Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo conducted the burial service of Sister Mercy Oppong, mother-in-law of Apostle Asampong (Koforidua) on 9th March 2024 at the Kumasi Central Church. He was accompanied by the 14 other Apostles of Ghana.

The text for the service was taken from Hebrew 9: 27-28, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.

There is hope for the dead in Christ
After the choir had sang “There is a glorious city full of peace...” the Lead Apostle consoled and encouraged the bereaved family asking them to commit all unto the Lord. “Let us be reminded that our mother sleeps in the bosom of father Abraham. Our hope is that we will meet again. She left behind her material world. It is a reminder and a lesson to all us that we shall depart from this world.”

Judgment is a choice!
On the text, the Lead Apostle explained that man has a choice to accept the salvation brought by Jesus to escape judgment or to reject Him and be condemned. He admonished the mourners to faithfully accept the gospel brought by Jesus Christ and to eschew all that will not help to our salvation. “Material riches, fame and hunger for prophesies are about our existence on earth. There are some who will face the judgment of God and some will not” Lead Apostle indicated.

Salvation in Jesus Christ
The Ghana Church Leader explained that prior to the arrival of Jesus, there was a condemnation and judgment. “He came and shed His blood for the remission of our sins to bring us salvation for our souls so that we can escape from judgment”. He explained that we do not come to church or serve the Lord for material riches or to belong to some society but for the salvation. He admonished us to seek first the kingdom of God.

In conclusion, the Lead Apostle was hopeful that the departed sister would find favour with the Lord.

The late sister was the mother of Sister Joyce Asampong, the wife of Apostle Asampong. She was 82.

Present also were retired Apostles Jantuah, Boakye, Benjamin Darko and Bishop Morgan Dadzie.
