“Worship is not limited to a physical building but can thrive in any space where God's people gather”, inspired Apostle George Sam as he encouraged the members at Asuawuah congregation through their latest predicament. He visited the congregation on 23rd June 2024.
Following the damage to our church building at Asuawuah by the rains, our congregation has been forced to adapt and find new ways to worship together. They now hold services in a classroom, a temporary but transformative space for divine service.
The text word used for the service was based on Exodus 20:8, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
Proclaiming the gospel to the congregation, the Apostle expressed that the Sabbath is a day for worship, rest, and spiritual refreshment. “We are to set it apart as sacred and different from other days as we have done here today. We could have gone to work or do something of our choice but we have chosen this day to observe it in a way that honours God, by abstaining from work and focusing on worship and rest.”
He continued: “Christ taught that the Sabbath day was made for man’s benefit, not the other way around.” He emphasized that the Sabbath is a day to rest and worship thus resting from our daily labours and focusing on spiritual matters. He said, the day is to direct our thoughts and actions towards God, but also added that the day is to do good by helping others, even if it means breaking the rules.
Ending the service the Apostle reechoed that, “the Sabbath is a gift from God to help us rest, worship, and focus on our relationship with Him. The day is not a burden but a day to enjoy, rejoice in God’s presence, love, grace, and do good to others, and find joy in worshipping Him.”
The Apostle was assisted by District Rector Numarh, Deputy District Rector Nkrumah and Priest Cudjoe.
