“There is a clear distinction between worshiping on a mountain, Jerusalem and in Spirit. The Apostle gave a clear understanding of where the true worshipper will worship the Father in Spirit and truth, as Jesus Christ told the Samaritan woman”, said Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo as he led the Sekondi congregation in a festive divine service. It also marked the end of his two-day working visit to the Takoradi Apostle Area on September 8, 2024
The text used for the service was based on 1 Kings 19:11-12, “Then He said, ‘Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”
Basing on the text word, the Lead Apostle gave an insight into the dramatic encounter prophet Elijah experienced with God on Mount Horeb, where Elijah found himself in a cave, feeling isolated and alone. “Just like Elijah on Mount Horeb, we often look for dramatic signs and manifestations of God’s presence. But God is not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. He is in the gentle whisper that follows.”
He continued that some of us often look for miracles or signs and feel divine services should be dramatic. “No, that is not the way to go! God may be speaking to us in quiet moments if we only take the time to listen as we are doing here today.”
He highlighted the following key points:
- God’s presence is not limited to external signs or manifestations.
- It is important for Christians to quieten our minds and hearts to hear God’s gentle whisper.
- Listening to God’s voice requires a willingness to be still and quiet before Him
- We must strive to be attentive to God’s voice, even amid noise and distractions.
“May we learn to listen for the whisper of God, finding strength and guidance in the stillness. For it is in the quietness that we often discover the deepest truths and most profound revelations” said the Lead Apostle as he ended the service.
The service was supported by Apostle Sam, Bishop Ampofo, District Rectors Appiah (Sekondi), Fenyi (Takoradi South), Asuah (Takoradi North); and Community Evangelist Elijah (Rector, Sekondi Congregation).
