On August 31, 2024, Apostle Alexander Poku-Akubia conducted a divine service for the Youth of Kpando and Vakpo Districts in the Volta North Apostle Area. This was part of a zonal youth gathering for the youth of the Apostle Area. The divine service was followed by outdoor fun games.
The Apostle based the youth service on a bible word from Luke 15:18-19 “I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”
The Apostle in opening the service expressed joy over the possibility of the youth gathering. He encouraged the youth to keep to their calling in order to become useful tools in the vineyard of the Lord should the return of Christ tarry longer than now.
Elaborating on the bible word, the Apostle highlighted the conduct of the prodigal son; he requested his share of inheritance, went to a far land to enjoy life, exhausted all he went away with, and was compelled by famine to eat food meant for swine.
The Apostle however emphasized that, one significant take away from the story is that, the prodigal son came to himself and took the necessary step to reunite with the father via the confession of his waywardness. “We are also tempted to feel there is a better life outside what we have in the Apostles doctrine. The feeling may sometimes arise in us to try something new, enjoy the world a little, go outside the remits of God’s commandments and live like others do” the Apostle said. “But let us be watchful. Even if you have done so already, return to the fold quickly. We have that we need here” he further admonished.
The Volta North leader further emphasized the priceless wealth in the house of the Lord. These include the Word, grace, peace, love and the promise of the heavenly everlasting fellowship with the Lord. “Let us repent, and cling to that which the Lord has prepared for us. They are both for our spiritual and physical wellbeing” he concluded.
The Apostle was assisted by Deputy District Rector for Hohoe, Shepherd Solomon Gottah and Shepherd Ampomah.
Fun Games
After the divine service, the youth undertook games including ludo, playing cards and bread eating competition. About 62 young people took part in the activities.
