On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Christians worldwide rejoiced in the birth of Jesus Christ, with members at the New Apostolic Church, Osu Congregation in Accra East District (Accra Apostle Area) commemorating the day with a festive divine service. Led by the Congregational Rector, Samuel Attiemo Kwapong, the festive service centered on the theme of God's love, joy and glory, celebrating the miraculous birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
The text word was taken from John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” The special bible passage, read by Sister Emily Ocquaye, was taken from Matthew 1:18-23.
Introducing the sermon, Congregation Rector Kwapong reminded the congregation of the profound joy that Christmas brings, despite the trials and tribulations of life. He explained how the birth of Jesus Christ—the Word through whom the world was created—restored the joy lost through humanity's fall from grace. God’s plan of salvation was fulfilled through the birth of His Son, who, conceived by the Virgin Mary, came to live among mankind, offering a path to eternal joy and salvation.
The Rector also shared and explained:
- How the angels heralded the birth of the promised Messiah to the shepherds, who rejoiced and praised God after seeing the baby Jesus.
- As members of Christ’s congregation, we are to continuously spread the Word of God as Christ did, and to live our lives as a testimony to the glory of God, and not man.
- Today, Jesus Christ still sends us into the world just as the Father sent Him, to spread the Word and proclaim the glory of God.
- Just like the shepherds heard, saw the promised Messiah and rejoiced, so will Jesus Christ come again. We shall see Him as He is and be joyful. We shall also praise and glorify God together, the Congregational Rector added.
Concluding the service, the Shepherd Kwapong emphasized that Christmas is not merely about celebration, but sharing the joy that the Saviour is born, has dwelt among us, and will return to take His Bridal Congregation into His Kingdom.
The service was assisted by Community Evangelists Mingle and Boakye as well as Priest Charles. After the service, Christmas carols were sung by the choir, bringing joy to all present. The Sunday School children were also treated to soft drinks and biscuits, and enjoyed a session of picture-taking. True to Christmas tradition, the ministers, together with members of the congregation, visited the elderly, sick, and less privileged in the congregation, offering gifts and praying for those in need.
