Sister Lily’s last days’ photo

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Congregation Rector, Shepherd James Attiemo Kwapong, led members of the New Apostolic Church, Osu Congregation, in a Thanksgiving Divine Service to celebrate the life of Sister Lily Amoafi Asare following her funeral service.

Emphasizing the need to be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God, the sermon was based on John 3:5, “Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.’”

Beginning his sermon, Shepherd Kwapong encouraged steadfastness in the Lord, seeking His help and mercy, and highlighted the importance of faith in Jesus Christ for eternal life.

The sermon also highlighted Jesus's criticism of the narrow interpretations of the Mosaic Law in his discourse with the societally esteemed Nicodemus. Referencing that encounter Shepherd Kwapong stressed the need for childlike faith and the importance of sacraments like Baptism and Holy Communion in our spiritual growth.

The Shepherd also shared a word about departed sister Lily: “Our sister & mother Lily is not amongst us today. Unlike previously, she would have sung with the choir today. However, she’s not with us and has preceded to the Lord. That is our faith and hope for the future that our works and dedication to the Lord would not be in vain.”

The Osu rector concluded the sermon by urging the congregation to seek eternal life and align their lives with God, despite the trials and challenges of the Christian path. The service was assisted by Community Evangelist Mingle and Priest Eben Adjei.

Gratitude by the Bereaved Family
After the service, the bereaved family led by Shepherd Okyere (Retired) took turns to thank the church, ministers, members and everyone who sympathized with him and the family during this mourning period.
