On Sunday, January 4, 2026, hundreds of members from the Accra East and West Districts gathered at the New Apostolic Church, Accra Central, for the New Year’s Divine Service. The service was conducted by Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene‑Saffo, accompanied by Apostle Charles Asare, together with District and Congregational Rectors from the Accra Apostle Area.
The text word for the service was taken from Mark 5:36b (NKJV): “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
Encouragement for the New Year
In his opening remarks, Lead Apostle Ohene‑Saffo wished the congregation a blessed New Year and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gather in God’s house on the first Sunday of 2026. He encouraged members to journey through the year with renewed belief and unwavering faith, giving thanks to God for His guidance and protection throughout the past year. He then introduced the theme for the service: “Do Not Be Afraid; Just Believe.”
Faith, Belief and Action
Expounding on the text word, the Lead Apostle reflected on the biblical account of Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood. He emphasized that while belief draws us to Christ, it is faith—active, courageous, and persistent—that brings divine intervention. Belief, he explained, forms the foundation of faith, but faith itself is demonstrated through action, especially in moments of difficulty. To illustrate this, he shared a personal testimony of a critically ill church member who recovered through prayer and steadfast faith in God. The Lead Apostle noted that many Christians believe, yet struggle to exercise faith when confronted with challenges. He contrasted this with the woman whose faith‑driven touch brought healing, affirming Jesus’ words: “Your faith has made you whole.” He encouraged the congregation to trust fully in God, even in times of fear and uncertainty.
A Call to Steadfastness
In concluding the sermon, Lead Apostle Ohene‑Saffo reminded the congregation that serving the Lord is not without challenges. Nevertheless, believers are called to remain steadfast. Whatever the year may bring, he urged all to hold firmly to the message: “Do not be afraid; just believe.” He was assisted during the service by Apostle Charles Asare; Shepherds Desmond Donkor (Accra Central), Felix (Bortianor), and Owusu‑Korkor (Anyaa); and Priest Sowah (East Legon).
Retirements, Appointments, and Ordinations
During the service, Lead Apostle Ohene‑Saffo retired three Congregational Rectors: Desmond Donkor, Felix, and Owusu‑Korkor. He also appointed Priest Opoku and assigned five Deputy Congregational Rectors. In addition, six Priests and nine Deacons were ordained to serve in various congregations.
Recognition
After the service, Shepherd Desmond Donkor of Accra Central was honoured with a citation in recognition of his long, faithful, and dedicated ministerial service.
