On January 17, 2026, Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene‑Saffo conducted a divine service at the Ve‑Koloenu congregation in the Likpe District, marking the second day of his working visit to the Volta North Apostle Area. More than one hundred brethren gathered to partake in the service.
The sermon was based on Matthew 19:20–21: “The young man said to Him, ‘All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?’ Jesus said to him, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’”
Encouragement for the New Year
In opening the service, the Lead Apostle expressed joy at meeting the brethren after a long period and commended their commitment to attending the service. He reminded the congregation of the Church’s motto for 2026 and reflected on the mixed experiences of the previous year—failures, unfulfilled desires, and successes alike. These events, he noted, may have unsettled many and stirred fear about the future.
“However, we are encouraged by our motto: Do not be afraid, just believe,” he emphasized.
Understanding Our Identity
Beginning the sermon, the Lead Apostle posed a thought‑provoking question: “Who are you? Are you a Ghanaian or a Jew?” He explained that it is essential for children of God to understand their spiritual identity, as this shapes the commandments and traditions that apply to them. He reminded the congregation that the Israelites received laws from God, which later became customs and traditions. Yet, he stressed, no one can perfectly fulfil all these laws.
“We are children of God, and through Christ we have received our identity. The laws we could not fulfil on our own are now made possible for us through grace,” he affirmed.
“Go, Sell Your Possessions”
Reflecting on the Bible text, the Lead Apostle discussed the young rich man who sought the path to eternal life. Jesus’ instruction to sell his possessions was difficult for him, not only because of his wealth but also because he considered himself righteous based on his adherence to the commandments. “The young man was simply not ready to yield to the counsel of Jesus Christ,” the Lead Apostle noted. He explained that the “possessions” Jesus referred to are not limited to material wealth but also include thoughts, ideologies, and attitudes that conflict with God’s plan of salvation. He encouraged members to “sell” or let go of misconceptions about the Apostles’ doctrine and the entire plan of salvation.
“Come, Follow Me”
The Lead Apostle emphasized that the final call—“follow Me”—invites believers to embrace the pure gospel of Jesus Christ. He cautioned members against the rising tide of false teachings, especially those circulating on social media. “We follow the ambassadors of Christ—the Apostles—who are equipped with the gospel and the sacraments to prepare us for the return of Christ,” he said. To truly follow, he added, believers must first remove from their hearts all thoughts and beliefs that are not of God. “Sell them, then come and follow,” he concluded.
The Lead Apostle was assisted by Apostle Alexander Poku‑Akubia and Priest Cephas Kottoh.
