On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Congregational Rector, Samuel Attiemo Kwapong, led the Osu Congregation in a special Thanksgiving Day Divine Service to offer thanks and praise to God for His wonderful creation and countless blessings. The congregation also remembered the late Sister Elizabeth Aba Mingle, who had been laid to rest the previous day, and commended her soul into God's care as they gathered in gratitude and worship.
The text word for the service was taken from Genesis 8:22: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night, shall not cease.”
In his sermon, Shepherd Kwapong emphasized that everything humanity possesses comes from God, who alone has the power to give and take away. He explained that Thanksgiving Day provides an opportunity for believers to praise and glorify God, while presenting offerings in appreciation of His goodness, faithfulness, and abundant blessings.
Drawing lessons from the biblical account of Noah and the ark, the Rector highlighted God's mercy, His displeasure with human wickedness, and His faithfulness in preserving those who trust and obey His Word. He recounted how Noah built an altar and offered burnt offerings to the Lord after the flood. Pleased with Noah's sacrifice, God promised that the natural order of the earth, including seedtime and harvest, would continue. This assurance, he noted, reaffirmed God's faithfulness and His commitment to sustaining life on earth.
Continuing the sermon, Shepherd Kwapong encouraged the congregation to emulate Noah by:
- Expressing sincere gratitude to God for His protection, provision, and countless blessings.
- Remaining faithful to God and honouring the promises made before His altar of grace.
- Remaining steadfast as soldiers of Christ, staying spiritually alert and vigilant against the adversary's attempts to lead God's children astray.
Leaning on the salvation offered through Jesus Christ, the Rector added that believers have the opportunity to receive salvation and are called to live faithfully under God's grace and blessings.
Concluding the divine service, Shepherd Kwapong urged the congregation to give thanks to God for the life and legacy of the late Sister Elizabeth Aba Mingle, who served faithfully as an active member of the Osu Congregation and has now departed to be with her Creator.
The Rector offered words of comfort and encouragement to the widower, Community Evangelist Mingle, urging him to find strength in God and remain grateful for the years shared with his late spouse, as well as for God's sovereign will in all circumstances.
The service was supported by Community Evangelist Boakye and Priest Adjei.
